CHILE: Reckoning over police violence continues

Eleven months on from the start of mass demonstrations that were met with an aggressive police crackdown against protesters, a bill has been presented to Chile’s congress that seeks to ban the use of rubber bullets and tear gas projectiles against crowds. The motion comes at a time of national reckoning over the police’s use of force in Chile, as the government faces pressure to hold human rights abusers to account.
