In brief: Nestlé México to invest in factory expansion

* Nestlé México, the Mexican subsidiary of Swiss food and drink giant Nestlé, has announced that it will invest US$160m in expanding pet food production lines at its Purina factory in Silao, Guanajuato state, in central Mexico. The investment will include automation and digitalisation upgrades in order to increase productivity and meet national demand. Construction work will generate 1,700 indirect new jobs, whilst the operation of new production lines will create 200 direct roles, according to the company. Currently the factory has the capacity to produce 25,000 tonnes of pet food a year, which will increase to 285,000 tonnes post-expansion, in part thanks to the use of new technology and software, which is also expected to increase exports. Nestlé México also announced that its Nestlé Purina division is now the leader in the Mexican pet food industry, a growing market in the country.
