Nestor Conde, the president of Bolivia’s national confederation of micro and small-sized enterprises (Conamype), has appealed for an injection of US$1.5bn in emergency credit to reactivate the sector. Conde claimed that these businesses had not been eligible for the emergency credit made available by the interim government in response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and as such have been hit the hardest by the associated economic crisis. He called for the provision of loans with low interest rates, comparable to those offered to larger companies (of between 4% and 5% per year), and with a grace period of at least one year, to support the survival of the sector.
