Daniel Ortega has released a preliminary report which puts the cost of damage left by tropical storm 'Eta' at C$6.13bn (US$172m) and the cost of reconstruction and restauration at C$1.25bn. According to the report, the storm, which made landfall on the Central American isthmus last week, left 1,890 homes destroyed and caused partial damage to a further 8,030 in Nicaragua. The North Atlantic Autonomous Region (Raan) and the departments of Nueva Segovia, Jinotega, and Chinandega were particularly badly hit. According to the report, the storm caused damage to 16 health centres, 45 educational centres, 66 bridges and 901kms of roads across the country.
