* Bolivia’s new President
Luis Arce has promulgated two new laws (1345 and 1346) which authorise the payment of a B$1,000 (US$145) ‘subsidy against hunger’ to over 4m people who are over 18 and not receiving a salary. Arce said that the subsidies, which will be paid as of December, aim to support the population and reactivate the domestic economy which has suffered due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and what he described as the poor economic management of the previous interim government led by
Jeanine Áñez (November 2019 - 8 November 2020). The funds will come from a US$450m loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and two loans from the World Bank for US$54.3m and US$200m.
