* The Brazilian association of airlines (Abear) has reported that demand for domestic flights in Brazil in October was 44.7% below demand registered in October 2019; supply of domestic flights was 41.2% below last year’s levels; and the number of passengers transported totalled 4.1m, a 51.1% year-on-year reduction, as the sector continues to be impacted by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Demand for international flights in October had fallen 88.2% below last year’s levels, while supply was 73.7% lower and the number of passengers transported had fallen by 90.3% to 183,100. The Abear’s figures show that activity in the domestic aviation market is on a trajectory of recovery, with demand growing 31.3% and supply 33.5% from September to October. Representatives from the aviation sector
are hopeful that Brazil’s domestic market will return to pre-pandemic levels in the first months of 2021, but the recovery is expected to be much slower for international travel.
