* Argentina’s secretary for energy,
Darío Martínez, has confirmed that a freeze on energy tariffs will come to an end as planned at the end of the year and energy prices will be readjusted in 2021. President
Alberto Fernández had implemented a six-month freeze on gas and electricity tariffs when he came to power in December last year, which in June was extended until the end of 2020, but the tariff freeze will not be renewed further. Speaking in a radio interview, Martínez gave assurances that the government is working on a framework to introduce a gradual increase in energy tariffs and avoid a sudden or dramatic jump in costs. Martínez also said that the government is looking into the efficient use of subsidies so as to exempt the most vulnerable from the increase in energy tariffs.
