Violeta Bermúdez emphasised that health, education, and agriculture had been prioritised along with efforts to eradicate poverty. Bermúdez said that the amount assigned for health was up 13.2% on the previous year, to PEN20.9bn, and education received an increase of 4.3% to PEN32.7bn, while the amount earmarked for agriculture was up 57% to PEN8.8bn. Bermúdez also said that PEN5.39bn had been assigned to poverty relief, of which 4.8bn would go on social programmes. The deadline for congress to approve the budget bill is 30 November.
