* Brazil’s foreign trade secretariat (Secex) in the economy ministry has released the latest balance of trade figures, which show that the country posted a US$3.7bn trade surplus in November, a 4.7% increase on the surplus registered in November 2019 and the third highest surplus ever recorded for that month. Exports totalled US$17.53bn in November and imports, US$13.8bn.
“What we observed in November is the result of what has been happening throughout the second half of the year, with the recovery of imports and maintaining [the level] of exports”, the Secex’s deputy secretary for statistics,
Herlon Brandão, said. In the 11 months to November 2020, Brazil’s trade balance totalled US$332.2bn, with a US$51.16bn surplus.
