A special mission from the Organization of American States (OAS) arrived in Guatemala at the behest of President Alejandro Giammattei last week. This followed Giammattei’s invocation of the OAS Inter-American Democratic Charter, in response to the violence unleashed on 21 November (an event now dubbed ‘21N’) sparked by the approval of the 2021 budget (since withdrawn) by congress [WR-20-48].
