MEXICO: Negotiating over outsourcing
Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has agreed to hold an open discussion with local business leaders over a reform initiative that he has already sent to the federal congress. This reflects the serious warnings that business leaders have issued over a reform proposal that would impose strict limits on the practice of outsourcing in Mexico. The concern is that the reform will destroy millions of jobs and severely limit the capacity of local businesses to generate jobs in the future. But convincing the notoriously inflexible López Obrador to change his views will be a major challenge.
