BRAZIL: Bolsonaro family affairs in the public eye again

President Jair Bolsonaro’s nearly two years in office have been marked by allegations of wrongdoing and suspicions of corruption involving his family members, notably his three eldest sons who are elected politicians – Flávio, a senator; Carlos, a councillor for the city of Rio de Janeiro; and Eduardo, a federal deputy. Bolsonaro himself has been under investigation this year for allegedly interfering in the federal police with the aim of protecting his family. Over the past fortnight, separate reports in two different Brazilian papers have once again raised suspicions that Bolsonaro is using the state apparatus to serve the interests of his close family rather than those of the Brazilian people.
