ARGENTINA: Crumbs of comfort

Argentina’s economy minister Martín Guzmán hailed the release of GDP figures for the third quarter of 2020 as evidence that the domestic economy is reviving and will rebound strongly next year. Guzmán also pointed to a decline in inflation as cause for encouragement. But there are signs that inflationary pressure is building in tandem with the economic recovery, and there is no escaping the fact that Argentina will finish 2020 with one of the heaviest contractions in the region and one of the highest rates of inflation.
