President Luis Abinader has unveiled institutional reforms to address corruption and recover funds stolen from the state. This is in line with an electoral pledge to tackle corruption - a key priority for the new Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) government, which took office in August, given public anger over the issue had been a major factor in the defeat of his predecessor Danilo Medina (2012-2020) of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD).
