EL SALVADOR | Bukele blasts budget. President Nayib Bukele cocked a snook at the opposition-controlled legislative assembly on 28 December by announcing that he would veto part of the 2021 budget it approved four days earlier on the grounds that it was “unconstitutional”. Bukele also said that he would spend the entire public works budget for the year in the next four months before seeking a budgetary amendment from the new legislature, which he hopes his party, Nuevas Ideas, will dominate after elections on 28 February.
