A massive blackout affecting more than 10m Mexicans in a third of the country’s states on 28 December has set the stage for a fierce debate between the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the political opposition, led by the main right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), over renewable energy in Mexico.
