An official report recently leaked to the Mexican press has warned that the three satellites that comprise the Mexican Satellite System (Mexsat), Mexico’s main telecommunications satellite network, are at risk of collapsing due to a lack of maintenance. Mexsat’s collapse would leave Mexico’s entire telecommunications system inoperative. To avoid this the Mexican government needs to spend a large amount of money on Mexsat, for which it has not allocated any funds in its 2021 budget.
