MEXICO: Sinaloa cartel hit hard as narco tactics shift gear

The government has been celebrating a succession of coups against the Sinaloa cartel, which may owe much to recent developments in the inter-cartel war. The cartel's contest for regional supremacy, meanwhile, continues to intensify, as the warring parties adopt higher-impact methods based on the time-honoured practice of 'plata o plomo' (accept a bribe or face intimidation, kidnapping or even assassination).
