In brief: Two new wind farms operational in Peru

* Spanish renewable energy company Grenergy has connected two wind farms in the province of Chota, Cajamarca region, with a combined capacity of 36.8 megawatts, to Peru’s national electrical grid. The 'Duna' and 'Huambos' projects are the first operational wind farms in the windy Peruvian sierra (highlands) and will reportedly help provide electricity to previously inaccessible communities. The projects were awarded to Grenergy back in 2016 as part of Peru’s efforts to meet 60% of the country’s energy demand with clean energy by 2025. Grenergy’s CEO, David Ruiz de Andrés, said “we hope it will be for our company the first of many green energy investments in Peru in the coming years”.
