Piñera seeks diplomatic solace amid domestic travails

Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera was compelled to make yet another high-profile cabinet reshuffle on 26 January after his finance minister, Ignacio Briones, tendered his resignation in order to participate in November’s presidential elections. Piñera swiftly set aside domestic politics, in which he is increasingly taking on the appearance of a lame duck, for diplomacy later on the same day, when he received his Argentine peer Alberto Fernández, who made his first state visit to Chile.
