* Bolivia’s Asociación de Productores de Oleaginosas y Trigo de Bolivia (Anapo), the national association of oilseeds, and wheat producers, has called on agricultural producers to stage
“indefinite mass blockades” of roads in the main productive areas of the eastern department of Santa Cruz. The protests have been called in rejection of decisions by the new Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government led by President
Luis Arce, which include the annulment of a decree passed by the interim government led by
Jeanine Áñez which had liberalised agricultural exports. The MAS government has since fixed prices such as those for soybean meal to ensure supply on the domestic market. The decree had also ended the need for producers to obtain a certificate of internal sufficiency of supply (especially for oilseed, rice, and sugar) and a ‘fair’ price (defined by the government) before being permitted to sell abroad. The certificate was introduced under the previous MAS government led by
Evo Morales (2006-2019) to protect internal supply and prices.
