COLOMBIA: Transitional justice takes a step forward

The 2016 peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrilla group was meant to herald the end of an era, bringing four years of negotiations – and over 50 years of civil conflict – to a close. In the years that have followed, however, it has been clear that Colombia’s conflict is far from over, despite the demobilisation of the Farc, and that one of the key points of the peace negotiations – the question of securing justice for the millions of victims of the war crimes committed by guerrillas and government alike – would have no straightforward resolution.
