The door slammed shut on the electoral prospects of Yaku Pérez on 14 March. Pérez, the presidential candidate of the indigenous political movement Pachakutik, alleged that he was the victim of electoral fraud in the first round on 7 February and demanded an extensive recount. The electoral disputes tribunal (TCE) rejected his appeal contesting the decision by the national electoral council (CNE) to carry out a minimal recount.
