The route south through
Colombia, Ecuador, and
Peru had long been a relatively safe corridor for
Venezuelans escaping the country’s long-running humanitarian crisis. Such migrants still frequently face stigmatisation, and often struggle to secure the documentation required for access to social security or regular employment – yet over 3m of the estimated 5.4m to have fled Venezuela in recent years have nonetheless able to settle, however precariously, in these three countries.
