* Costa Rica’s official export promotion agency (Procomer) has released new figures which show that in the first two months of 2021, Costa Rica’s exports totalled US$2bn, up 10% on the same period in 2020. Procomer highlights that growth was driven by increases in exports of medical and precision equipment (which accounted for 36% of total exports and was up 23%); food (which accounted for 14% of exports and was up 20%); and metalworking (which accounted for 4% of exports and was up 28%). However, Procomer notes that other exports from other sectors fell, including agriculture (which accounted for 21% of exports and was down 9%) and fisheries (which accounted for 3% of exports and was down 9%). The results led foreign trade minister,
Andrés Valenciano, to declare that Costa Rica’s export sector is on the road to recovery.
