Mexico re-opens too soon

The first known Covid-19 case was detected in Mexico on 28 February 2020: the carrier was a locally based Italian citizen who had recently returned from a European trip. As in other Latin American countries the virus spread very rapidly in the first months of the outbreak. Just over a year later the country had reported over 2m cumulative cases and 190,000 fatalities. This death rate was the third largest in the world, behind the United States and Brazil.
