In brief: Mexico’s inflation continues to rise

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the latest figures for the consumer price index (IPC), according to which monthly inflation totalled 0.83% in March. This brings annual inflation in March to 4.67%. This is the highest level of inflation recorded since late 2018, and compares with annual inflation of 3.25% in March 2020 and 3.76% in February 2021. Current projections suggest this year’s inflation rate will exceed the central bank’s (Banxico) target of 3% with a +/- 1 percentage point tolerance range.
