In brief: Peru’s exports up

* Peru’s foreign trade & tourism minister, Claudia Cornejo, has said that Peru’s exports totalled US$11.1bn in the first quarter of 2021, up 12.6% on the same period in 2020. Last week the Lima chamber of commerce (CCL) reported that Peru’s exports totalled US$3.65bn in March alone, up 32.5% on the same month in 2020. According to CCL, China remains Peru’s top export market accounting for US$1.09bn of sales in March 2021, followed by the US (US$370m); South Korea (US$210m); Canada (US$205m); and Japan (US$195m). Peru’s main exports were copper ore, which accounted for US$814m of sales in March 2021; followed by gold (US$538m); fishmeal (US$186m); and refined copper cathodes (US$175m).
