In brief: Amcham calls for more public spending to support Mexico’s recovery

* The American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico (Amcham), a lobby group that groups US firms that operate in Mexico, has said that in order for Mexico’s national economy to have a more effective recovery this year, the government should increase its spending to stimulate more economic activity. Luis Foncerrada, Amcham’s economic advisor, said that the increased levels of economic activity in the US and associated increase in demand for Mexican exports are expected to have a positive impact on Mexico’s economic growth but that this should be “complemented” with increased public spending to ensure faster recovery. Indeed, Foncerrada said that with increased government spending Mexico’s economy could this year grow by more than the 4.5% that local private economists are currently forecasting.
