ARGENTINA: Fernández seeks more goodwill to resolve debts

Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández set off on a new European tour this week seeking to garner international support for his government’s proposals to renegotiate Argentina’s debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Paris Club of creditor nations. This is the second time that Fernández has travelled to Europe to secure backing at the IMF in as many months, but the first time that he has tried to convince Paris Club members to reduce Argentina’s debt burden. While he may encounter sympathy for the former, Fernández’s uncompromising stance makes it harder to achieve the latter.
