MEXICO: Increased auto production and exports despite input shortages

Data published by Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) on 7 May shows that both vehicle production and exports had significant growth rates in April after the sector suffered major disruption in 2020 because of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. These results come even though production of cars continues to be affected by a worldwide shortage of inputs, which is not expected to abate until the middle of the year, according to the Mexican of automobile industry association (AMIA) and the national auto parts industry association (INA).
