VENEZUELA: Doubts over vaccine progress

Venezuela’s national medical association (ANM) issued a stark warning on 24 May, arguing that the government’s “spasmodic, insufficient and unplanned” rollout of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccinations is contributing to “a rapidly growing humanitarian catastrophe”. This came one day after President Nicolás Maduro heralded the launch of a new phase in the vaccine rollout, saying that some 1.3m vaccine doses had recently arrived from China.
