BRAZIL: Unexpected signs of strong economic rebound

Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) released the country’s first quarter GDP results on 1 June, prompting a flurry of optimism: with 1.2% quarterly growth and 1.0% year-on-year growth, the Brazilian economy has exceeded expectations and recovered to pre-coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic levels.
