ECUADOR-BOLIVIA: Moreno under pressure over alleged arms shipment

Ecuador’s former president Lenín Moreno (2017-2021) is facing scrutiny over whether his administration supplied weapons to the Bolivian government led by former interim president Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020). An investigation is already underway in Bolivia, with Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo accusing Moreno of supplying the Bolivian security forces with “war munitions” that were used to suppress anti-government protests. A complaint against Moreno has since been lodged with Ecuador’s attorney general’s office, and could prove awkward for his successor, President Guillermo Lasso.
