In brief: Argentina’s GDP shows signs of recovery

* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the country’s latest GDP figures which show 2.5% year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2021. Indec data attributes GDP growth in the first quarter of 2021 primarily to year-on-year increases in the construction (21.3%) and manufacturing industries (11.4%), while hospitality shrank by 35.5%. The Q1 figure for 2021 contrasts with year-on-year contractions in the previous four quarters, with -4.3% growth registered in Q4 2020, -10.2% in Q3 2020, -19% in Q2 2020, and -5% in Q1 2020.
