ECUADOR: Fuel price controls provide bone of contention

Fuel prices are a highly sensitive issue in Ecuador. So, when the indigenous political movement Pachakutik (PK) urged the government led by President Guillermo Lasso on 22 June to take action to halt constant fuel price increases it immediately gained widespread media attention. The deadly indigenous protests over fuel subsidies in October 2019 are still seared into the public memory.
