PERU | Economic recovery. Peru’s GDP expanded by 13.8% in the first four months of 2021 compared with the same period last year, the national statistics institute (Inei) announced on 22 June. In April the economy grew by a record 58.49% year-on-year against a very low base of comparison: the economy contracted by 39.09% in April 2020 as tough restrictions were imposed at the start of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic; April’s GDP figure is still down by 3.46% on April 2019.
