NICARAGUA: Ortega undeterred

The prospect of international sanctions in response to the string of arrests of opposition pre-presidential candidates ahead of the general election on 7 November [WR-21-23] would seem to be having little impact on the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) government led by President Daniel Ortega. Authorities have not only continued to arrest presidential contenders but are now targeting individuals linked to the political opposition and beyond.
