COLOMBIA | Second metro line gets green light. The government led by President Iván Duque and the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, announced on 29 June the construction of a second metro line in an effort to address the serious congestion and pollution problems in the Colombian capital. The new line, which is projected to cost Col$13tn (US$3.45bn), and create 5,000 direct jobs during the construction phase, will extend 15.8km with 11 stations (eight of them underground), and benefit an estimated 2.5m people.
