* Argentina’s President
Alberto Fernández has extended the validity of a presidential decree of national urgency (DNU) which was issued
in late June and restricts entry to the country via international flights, including of Argentine nationals, in a bid to reduce the threat posed by the more contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus (Covid-19). The
controversial measure has been extended until 6 August, but the restrictions will be slightly eased in the process. The daily cap of 600 passengers arriving on international flights will be gradually increased, with the weekly quota of 4,200 arrivals gradually rising every week to eventually reach 7,000 in the last week of July and first week of August. Argentina’s borders remain closed to international tourism and flights from countries considered high-risk – namely the United Kingdom, Chile, Brazil, India, and the whole of Africa – are suspended.
