Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso announced his government’s intention on 13 July to pursue a free trade deal with the US. This is not likely to go down well with the umbrella indigenous group Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas de Ecuador (Conaie), which elected a combative new president in late June.
