* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the results from the new edition of its national employment survey (Enoe), which show that the unemployment rate stood at 4% in June, equivalent to 2.3m people in search of work. This is a 0.2 percentage point decrease on the unemployment rate in May, and a 1.5 percentage point drop from a year earlier, when unemployment stood at 5.5%, amid stronger impacts from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The Enoe report also shows that Mexico’s economically active population - people over the age of 15 who are employed or seeking employment - has grown by 6.5m compared with June 2020 and totalled 57.4m in June this year, equivalent to 58.5% of the overall population aged 15 and over. Meanwhile, the underemployment rate fell to 12.4% in June this year, from 20.1% in June 2020.
