In brief: Investment in expansion of Peruvian airports

* Peru’s ministry of transport and communications (MTC) has announced that a programme to expand and renovate a number of airports has received over US$1.8bn in public and private investment. The bulk of this investment (US$1.2bn) was directed at Jorge Chávez international airport in Lima to build a new terminal, runway, and control tower. The MTC expects this work to be completed by 2025. A new international airport is also under construction in Chinchero (Cusco region), at a cost of PEN2.43bn (US$619.54m). The new airport at Chinchero is the result of a government-to-government agreement with South Korea, and is expected to be used by between 4.5m and 5.7m passengers annually. Elsewhere, the MTC announced that engineering surveys will be carried out in the coming months ahead of planned improvements to airports in the cities of Arequipa (Arequipa), Ayacucho (Ayacucho), Juliaca (Puno), Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios), and Tacna (Tacna).
