* Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released new figures for the consumer price index (IPC), which show that inflation rose by 3% in July compared with June. This brings annual inflation in July to 51.8%, up from 50.2% a month earlier. The July IPC confirms a slow-down in the pace of inflation in recent months, following a monthly peak of 4.8% in March, and it is the lowest monthly inflation recorded since September 2020 (2.8%). July inflation was driven by a monthly increase in prices in the hotels & restaurants sector (4.8%), followed by the health sector (3.8%), food & non-alcoholic drinks (3.4%), and various goods & services (3.2%). In the latest survey of market expectations by Argentina’s central bank (BCRA), inflation was expected to close the year at 48.2%.
