Both the Venezuelan government and the political opposition claimed to have extracted significant concessions from each other in the second round of talks held in Mexico this week. Massive differences still separate both sides, and they may yet prove insurmountable, but the partial agreements reached on two of the less contentious issues up for discussion offered some encouragement that it might be possible to reach a compromise on more substantive matters as the dialogue process progresses.
