José Ignacio Paliza, the Dominican Republic’s administrative minister for the presidency, warned this week that any citizen who has committed or is linked to an illicit act “will have to face justice, even if they are a member of our party” [the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno, PRM]. Paliza’s warning follows a major operation (Falcón), which took place on 8 September, as part of a drug-trafficking and money-laundering investigation which implicates sitting legislators and has so far resulted in 21 arrests.
