Nicolás Maduro has announced that he has approved nearly €31m (US$36.2m) in funding to complete suspended infrastructure projects that were launched by the Brazilian engineering firm Odebrecht, which in 2015 was found to be running a pan-continental bribery racket. Maduro said that he had authorised the spending of €15m to resume construction of Line 5 of the Caracas Metro, and announced a further €15.9m would be spent on completing the Guarenas-Guatire train route on the outskirts of Caracas. Maduro said that the works would be paid for in cash and carried out by Venezuelan engineers.
