* Ecuador’s tax authority (SRI) has announced that the September tax haul totalled US$1.01bn, up 22% on the same month in 2020. From January-September, the tax take increased by 10.86% year-on-year, totalling US$10.39bn. SRI director
Marisol Andrade said that the increase reflects a recovery in economic activity following the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, pointing to a 20.57% increase in revenue from value-added tax (VAT) in the first nine months of this year, amounting to US$4.79bn. Andrade added that an even greater 26.6% year-on-year increase in VAT revenue in September (US$647m) indicates that Ecuador’s economic recovery is now accelerating.
