HONDURAS: Corruption stalks presidential frontrunner

The frontrunner in the Honduran presidential elections on 28 November, Nasry Asfura, is trying to fend off corruption allegations after his name cropped up in the Pandora Papers. Asfura, who is standing for the long-ruling right-wing Partido Nacional (PN), became the majority shareholder of an offshore company in Panama in 2007. Asfura insisted that everything was above board but he has been dogged by corruption allegations while serving as mayor of Tegucigalpa. Recent opinion polls suggest the presidential race is close enough that the disclosure could potentially impact the result of the elections.
