MEXICO: Optimistic budget proposal assumptions are unlikely to materialise

On 8 September Mexico’s finance minister, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, presented the federal government’s proposed 2022 budget, which includes its key economic assumptions for the year as well as its revenue and spending plans. The budget proposal includes a few novelties – in particular an increased tolerance of debt. However, spending plans for the next year largely maintain the priorities of the administration led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
